Who still uses AVI when MP4 is now the new standard for video files? I know that uncompressed video was a thing in 1995, but we're well past that. Not even pirated torrent videos use this format. But I guess you can still find the occasional morbid example or jewed-up situation when you merely need an AVI fixer. In that case, with DivFix++ you get another shot at a pleasant viewing experience.

DivFix++ is a simple tool that re-builds a video's index information. The index is used by media players to allow the user to search the video backward or forwards and to skip to a certain point, just like we all like to do on boring YT videos.

If a video is missing its index part, you have no choice but to fix it. Alternatively, you could use VLC Media Player, which can rebuild indexes temporarily. Coincidentally, DivFix++ uses the same code to make permanent fixes.

In case you have multiple AVI videos which need fixing, but only so little time to stare at the screen, then you're covered, as DivFix++ can inherently perform operations on multiple files. Besides fixing, DivFix++ can also check for errors and strip them of their index part, which sounds brutal, but it gave me tremendous help in producing an AVI file without an index for the sake of this article.

When fixing, DivFix++ creates a separate file, unless you've unchecked that option. I urge you to leave it checked, as there are no warnings or confirmations once you click "Fix" or "Strip Index."

You do not need to install DivFix++, which, combined with its size, makes it very portable.

Final Thoughts

It's safe to say that DivFix++ can fix what itself has stripped, but I cannot guarantee it would work in more severe cases. For example, I did go and fiddled a bit with the hex code of the subject video, and DivFix++ was not able to make head or tails of it. In any case, It doesn't hurt to try.
